  • I am a first time trekker, I would love to trek but have not attempted this before, what treks would you suggest?
  • Start with short 1-3 days treks, treks are generally graded as Very Easy, Easy, Moderate, Difficult, Strenuous, Challenging, Extreme, so you can begin with Easy grade treks and gradually scale to the next grades based on fitness and medical conditions.

  • What is Rappelling?
  • Rappelling or Abseiling or descending from a rock face/peak/mountain in the safest way, using basic equipments like Rope, Carabineer, Descender, Harness, Mittens. Rappelling can be done by non-adventure professionals also and it can be a very enjoyable experience.

  • How frequently can I go trekking, without over doing it? I have a 6 day a week job as well.
  • You can go on a trek every weekend based on how much time you have and how much you can spend. Trekking is a great exercise and can be very relaxing; you can also pick up additional hobbies like Photography, Bird watching etc.

  • How safe are Adventure activities?
  • Adventure activities of any type (Land, Water or Air) are thrilling, but it comes with its own share of risks. Risks can be classified as Nature risk, Navigation risk, Medical risk, Equipment risk and Operational Risk. Even though Nature and Navigation risk is not under human control, Medical risk can be addressed by giving the right information about your medical condition, preparing better physically and mentally for any adventure activity. Equipment and Operational risk is related to the kind of operator or service provider you choose. Ensure that you take up extreme adventure activities with certified people only.

  • How to select a right adventure travel operator or service provider?
  • Adventure comes its own thrill and also risk, adventure not necessarily means putting oneself through uncalculated risks, hence choosing the right adventure travel operator or service provider is very important to have a good adventure outing in the most safest way.

    When one is planning to take up any adventure activity, getting information on the operator should be a priority. Here is an operator checklist for your reference that you should ask the operator of your choice:

  • What kind of programs do you organize?
  • For adventure enthusiasts we organize Trekking, Rafting, Rock Climbing, Parasailing, High Altitude Trekking, Expeditions, Nature Camps and Skiing across India, Indian Himalayas and Nepal Himalayas. The duration ranges from 2-20 days all through the year, and adventure camps for children during summer holidays.

    For Corporate we offer Experiential Learning, Outbound Training and Team Outings (adventure based only). Some of our training modules include Team Building, Team Management, Leadership Skills etc

  • How do I get updates on your program or join your program/group?
  • You can Register with us to get monthly program calendar via SMS & email, you can then choose the program you would like to participate and register by making the payment for the program. Once you participate in our program you will be given a membership card and will be entitled for discounts and other loyalty benefits.

  • Can you do an exclusive program for a group of friends and family?
  • Yes, we can organize an exclusive program for a group of a minimum of 8 people; you can SMS “My Trek My Time ” to 56677 giving the place/activity and date of your choice, or mail your requirement to info@basecampindia.com.

  • Is there a minimum and maximum age for adventure programs?
  • Adventure programs are generally for the people between 10-55 years, but it is completely dependent on medical conditions and fitness levels. All our programs are classified as Very Easy, Easy, Moderate, Difficult, Strenuous, Challenging, Extreme, so one can choose the program based on age, fitness and medical conditions.

  • How much will Adventure wear and gear cost for a 15 day trip in Himalayas?
  • The wear and gear for a 15 day trip in Himalayas will cost around INR 4000 to INR 15000 based on what you want to buy, please mail info@basecampindia.com for Himalayan checklist that has a list of things you may need for an Himalayan adventure trip.

  • What is the right season to trek in the Himalayas?
  • Trekking activities in Himalayas is done in 2 seasons pre-monsoon which is between May – July and post-monsoon between August – October, Skiing activities are between February – April. Weather conditions in the mountains can change drastically hence choosing the right reason is the most important aspect of any trips in the Himalayas.

  • How fit should one be to trek in the Himalayas?
  • There is a huge difference between hiking on flat terrain and trekking uphill and downhill or higher altitude, also walking for consecutive days is very different from single day walks/treks. Before any big trek, it is always good to increase physical fitness levels, key to training lies in slow but steady progress.

    Suggested plan to prepare for High Altitude Treks:

    • Start with 2-4 kms and increase to 6-10 kms per day
    • Breathing exercises or Yoga
    • Swim for at least 2-3 hours every week
    • Increase the length of the walks, carrying a back pack and increase weight of the back pack
    • Check the BP levels before and after treks
    • Check pulse rate and sugar levels
    • Maintain a healthy and nutritious diet
    • Consume more liquids at regular intervals
    • Consult a doctor and get a complete medical check-up done
  • Do we need oxygen cylinders for high altitude treks?
  • Additional oxygen supply is not required up to an altitude of 7500 mts, additional supplies are used only during mountaineering and it is not required for general very high altitude treks until there is a medical emergency.

  • What is the right season to trek in South-of-India?
  • South-of-India treks are best between September – February, since most of the treks are in the main forest cover summers is not the best time due to extreme heat and possibility of forest fire. Monsoon season between the June – mid-September is not suitable due to leeches and possibility of landslides.

  • What are the precautions one should take before embarking on an adventure program?
  • Having the right information, medical fitness, calm mind and qualified adventure travel operator or service provider are the most important aspects of any adventure program, do refer our Tips for Outdoor section for detailed information.

  • How much will it cost for a helicopter rescue in Himalayas in case of emergency?
  • Adventure travel operators or service providers or insurance does not cover helicopter rescue, it would cost INR 200000 to INR 400000 based on the weather conditions.

  • Is there insurance cover for adventure activities, should I take a cover?
  • Yes there is an insurance cover for trekking, mountaineering and allied activities. You can get an individual insurance cover from any nationalized insurance companies; the premium is around INR 300 per lac. Basecamp Adventures takes the individual cover for the participant to an extent of INR 200000 for all its Himalayan programs.

  • Is there any information on altitude sickness?

  • What kind of food should be consumed during the treks/adventure programs?
  • Even though in outdoor it is difficult to get fresh fruits and vegetables at all times it’s important to eat nutritious food. Ready-to-eat foods are generally popular in all outdoor programs; in our long duration events we provide fresh food like Roti, Dal, Rice, Noodles, canned Juice, Dry fruits etc

  • Can one consume alcohol during any adventure program?
  • Alcohol is definitely a no-no in outdoors, at high altitudes acclimatization gets effected due to consumption of alcohol, it is also important to stay sober when you are with a group whom you may have met on the program.

  • Do you have any program for children?
  • Yes, we organize programs for children; we have summer camps, adventure camps for children between the age group of 9-14 years. The duration of the camps are 2-6 days, and are generally held at Coorg, Rishikesh, Tumkur, Chikkamanglore etc. We also have 1-day adventure camps time to time based on the holidays.
