Feb2010 - Frozen River Trek

Walking on Frozen river of Zanskar is an ultimate experience for adventure lover. The traditional name of the trek is " Chadar trek" the frozen sheet, which was only route for Zanskaris in winter when all other ways are closed due to heavy snow fall at high passes. Therefore, it had been trade route for centuries for Zanskar People.

This is the most isolated and made inaccessible for nearly eight months a year due to heavy snowfall resulting in closure of all the access passes, Zanskar has the distinction of being the least interfered, thus one of the last few surviving cultural centers of Tibet. Chadar trek allows you to experience the remote villages and to visit some of the villages along the Zanskar River in the midst of winter and thus catch a glimpse of the life during the snowfall time of the year. A visit to the ancient monastic establishments of Karsha and Zangla for sure gives an insight into the mysteries of this Shangri-la, a land and culture frozen in time behind the Zanskar Mountains.

Kailash Manasarovar

Kailash Manasarovar is considered as the holiest pilgrimage for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Tibetans; who also believe that it’s once in a lifetime travel to this holy place. For Tibetans it is known as Khang Rimpoche (Precious Jewel of Snow) and they consider it as the navel of the world.

For the Hindus Mount Kailash is the spiritual center of the universe, a world pillar. The lowest point is supposed to be hell and its summit kissing the heavens, where Lord Shiva & Ma Parvati reside.

It is believed that mountain pours into the lake Manasarovar, and flows into four rivers in four directions, the River of the Lion Mouth to the north, the River of the Horse Mouth to the east, the River of the Peacock Mouth to the south and the River of the Elephant Mouth to the west. The four major rivers that originate near Kailash - the Indus, the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra), the Karnali and the Sutlej are considered as the one flown from that lake.

Roopkund Trek & Rafting at Rishkesh

Roopkund became famous when large number of Human bones was reported. After that explorers and scientists have tried to explain the mystery but it helped in deepening the mystery rather solving it. Two theories have emerged and one is that these bones are of Gen.Zorawar Singh of Kashmir and his men who were coming back after raiding China-Tibet in 17th Century. Second opinion, which is also believed by locals, is that large numbers of people visiting Homkund were trapped in avalanches and snowstorms and got killed. Not even a single man survived to tell the true story. It is situated in CWM of Trishul and this is again a positive factor for unpredictable change in weather in Himalayas.
